The RF-S 7.8mm f/4 STM Dual VR lens is powered by a gear-type stepping motor (STM) with a dual-lens autofocus system, enabling the left and right lenses to move swiftly and quietly in sync. This setup makes autofocusing as intuitive as using a single standard lens. Suitable for both photography and video, the lens features an electronic focusing/control ring and a left-right focus difference adjustment switch, giving you the flexibility to focus both lenses together or just the left lens as needed. Compatible with Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF, it also supports full-time manual focus for precise control, ideal for dynamic or action shots.

Design and Construction

This lens captures immersive content in Spatial, 3D 180°, and 3D formats, thanks to its straight-path optical system with two ultra-low dispersion elements that effectively minimize chromatic aberrations. With a construction of nine elements in five groups, it also features Canon's Super Spectra Coating to reduce ghosting and flare, ensuring clear and vibrant images. It accommodates light-modifying filters with a 58mm front thread, and its close 5.9" minimum focusing distance brings your subjects into sharp detail. Compact and lightweight, the lens extends just 1.6" from the camera and weighs a mere 4.6 oz, making it an ideal travel companion.
